In 2005, Infobase was jointly commissioned by Glasgow City
Council and Greater Glasgow NHS to develop a dataset of
carers groups and organisations that currently operate
across the city.
In addition to making information web-available from one
source, the Glasgow Carers Dataset also aims to improve
access to resources and services for carers and to
improve engagement with carers in both local and
citywide planning.
The Glasgow Carers Dataset aims to be as inclusive as
possible, including groups and meetings regardless of
formality and size, and is open to all care groups.
The information contained in the dataset was gathered from
carers groups during a short interview. If you are part
of a group or know of any groups or services that
haven’t yet been included, please get in touch with
the Infobase team who will arrange a time to meet with
you. New groups will be added as the dataset develops,
and the Infobase team will be contacting all groups
regularly to check the information is accurate and up to
date.
The
word carer does not mean paid care worker or care staff.
Many people who are looking after someone do not
identify themselves as carers so continue to care
without knowing what support is available to them.
Who
is a Carer?
Carers
A
carer is someone who looks after a partner, relative or
friend who cannot manage without help because they are
physically or mentally ill, frail or disabled. They may
or may not live together.
Young
Carers
Young
carers are young people (up to the age of 18 years) who
are affected by chronic illness or disability of a
family member and who provide them with care and
support.
Parent
Carers
By
parent carer, we mean a parent of a disabled child or
young person. Parents will often see themselves as
parents rather than carers but their child will have
additional care needs and may be entitled to additional
services.
More
information for carers is available from the Carers
